Broken Big Toe

Question


I dropped a 10lb weight plate from chest level on my left foot. I broke my big toe. A non displaced oblique FX to the distal phalange. I was placed in a post op shoe and buddy taped the big toe to the second toe. I am told I will be out of work for 6-8 weeks to heal.
I called the NP back about a week later to explain that I was having more pain in my ankle and the side of my foot because I was favoring the big toe. I asked if I could try a walking boot for the extra support and help with walking and standing. The answer was "no" " You will make it worse". What can I do for another 6 weeks of walking around on such an umconfortable shoe?
I don't have the best care right now, due to be on workers comp. I have heard of cast, walking boots...etc. Any suggestions?

See your Podiatrist for advice on an alternative walking boot. There are planty of options available. I am sure one can be found to make you more comfortable during the healing process.
