Possible Broken Toe

Question

I tripped over a shoe while holding a child in my arms and felt my toe bend in half. It started to
pain almost immediately. It is the toe beside my big toe and it is black and blue already and very painful. Is there anything I can do to aleviate the pain?

Answer

R.I.C.E.R

Rest, ice, compression, elevation and referral to your local podiatrist or doctor for an x-ray to see just how bad the damage is. Broken toes usually just require rest and occassionally splinting. Surgery may be indicated with severe deformity, however, this is rarely required. Your Podiatrist can also help with recommendations to help ease the pain.
